A common misconception about diabetes is that all patients need to go on insulin shots.

The truth is that only Type 1 diabetic patients absolutely need insulin injections. Type 1 diabetes is uncommon and accounts for only about 5% of diabetics patients.

The remaining 95% of diabetics have Type 2 diabetes and often do not not need insulin shots, but only if treated with appropriate medicines.

Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes are two very different diseases. In Type 1 diabetes there is severe lack of insulin, but in Type 2 diabetes, there is often too much insulin and the real problem is resistance to the action of insulin. Unfortunately, these patients do not receive appropriate treatment for insulin resistance and eventually end up on insulin shots.

At the Jamila Diabetes & Endocrine Medical Center, Dr. Zaidi employs a new treatment strategy for treating insulin resistance in Type 2 diabetic patients. Almost all of these patients DO NOT progress to needing insulin shots.
